Sponsor Announcement - Ron Arons to Speak in Southern California in September

Ron Arons got involved with genealogy more than twenty years ago after losing both of his parents to cancer and finding both his father’s family tree and a box of postcards from the ‘old country’ in the attic of his childhood home. Ron ran with this documentation and quickly discovered that his mother’s paternal grandfather had served time in Sing Sing Prison for, of all things, bigamy. The story of this criminal ancestor continues to unfold with very recent discoveries including two different applications for Social Security and a Civil Service card (Ron’s great-grandfather, yes the criminal one, passed the Civil Service exam in 1921, qualifying him to work as an auditor for the New York State Tax Bureau.) Ron has traced his roots to England, Poland, Romania, Belarus, Ukraine, and Lithuania.

Ron has written three books: 1) The Jews of Sing Sing – about the antics of his great-grandfather and a dozen other Jewish criminals who served time in the famous prison for a variety of crimes, 2) WANTED! U.S. Criminal Records – a 388-page reference book listing where criminal record sets can be found across the country, and 3) Mind Maps for Genealogy – mind maps are radial outlining tools (used in corporate America for brainstorming, by attorneys, by teachers, and by writers to layout their stories). This last book shows how mind maps can be used to think more creatively and to solve extremely difficult genealogical research problems.
